Oscar Swan is a professor of Polish and advisor of the Polish Studies minor at the University of Pittsburg. He received his PhD in Slavic Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of textbooks in Polish, Russian, Slovak, and Old Church Slavic. Among his recent books are “Kaleidoscope of Poland: A Cultural History” (2015), a translation of “Customs and Culture in Poland under the Last Saxon King” by Jędrzej Kitowicz (2019), and “The Short Story in a Polish Context” (2024), the last reflecting on some fifty years of experience teaching Polish language and literature at Pitt. He is an honorary member of the North American Association of Teachers of Polish.
