As popular culture expands through TV shows, social media, and video games, Polish-language students are increasingly engaged with these trends. This provides language instructors with a valuable opportunity to make their lessons more relevant and engaging. In this event, Dr. Piotr Kajak (University of Warsaw) will share practical strategies for integrating elements of popular culture into Polish language teaching, drawing on his extensive experience in the field.
In our second Fall 2024 event, we welcome Dr. Piotr Kajak, Deputy Director of the Centre of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners Polonicum at the University of Warsaw. Dr. Kajak will deliver a lecture on the incorporation of popular culture into the teaching of Polish as a foreign language, drawing on his 2020 monograph Kultura popularna w nauczaniu polszczyzny jako języka obcego. Wstęp do kulturoznawstwa glottodydaktycznego (University of Warsaw Press). Last academic year (2023/2024), Dr. Kajak has also taught a dedicated seminar on the topic titled Kultura popularna w nauczaniu języka polskiego jako obcego at the University of Warsaw.
The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session. In early September, the Zoom link to the event will be distributed to all active NAATPl members. If are not a current member, please make sure to join us using this form to access the event. Traditionally, the working languages of the event will be Polish and English.
