Anna Z. Gąsienica-Byrcyn is an instructor of Polish and French at St. Xavier University in Chicago and a Polish-English bilingual teacher at the Burbank School District. She holds a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her essays on the poetry, tales, legends, art, music, and dances of the Tatras appeared in the “Orzeł Tatrzański,” “Echo Podhalańskie,” and “Podhalanin.” Among others, she co- translated Eliza Orzeszkowa’s novel “Marta” (Ohio University Press, 2018) and published an article “Poetic Texts in Polish Heritage Classes” in the “East/West: Journal of Ukrainian Studies” (2017).
